So in case you didn't know...I am taking on this 30 day Full-voice challenge for the month of May (yes, tomorrow). Within this time I need to do the following things;
-PRACTICE vocal techniques for 30 minutes every day
-TAKE Four private vocal lessons
-GET Two coaching sessions (with a professional accompanist)
-PERFORM a Live vocal performance (solo in front of an audience at an event/venue)
-WATCH a Live vocal performance (good excuse to see another musical!)
-AUDITION for something (Broadway or the like) (the reason I am here in the First place)
-RECORD a demo and post it on youtube (my youtube debut!!! keep an eye out...it will go viral just like
Bieber, here's hoping)
-DANCE at Broadway Dance Center (20 classes within the 30 days) which will be easy to achieve since
I do 12 classes a week with the program I'm in (although I have an ankle injury at the moment...let's
hope it heals quickly)
-EAT twenty-five HEALTHY meals (no more macaroni cheese hahaha)
-DONATE my time to 5 charitable deeds (whether I work at a soup kitchen or dance for a charitable
cause...I have no doubts that this will be the most rewarding part of the challenge!)
-BLOG everyday before midnight (NYC time) here is where I will write about the practice I've done, the
dance classes, the meals, the performances, the ups the downs, the charitable deeds...EVERYTHING!
I will be posting photos and videos on my bog too for evidence that I have done the things I have
blogged about.
What do I get out of it???
-A stronger voice
-That warm fuzzy feeling you get when you do something good for others
-Experience (singing live, posting on youtube, going to auditions, trying different dance classes etc)
-and I become eligible for a list of prizes such as agency representation/interview, recording a demo single with Broadway star Tituss Burgess, scholarship for the summer voice festival at the Manhattan school of music, Musical Theater Project scholarship, Headshots, dance classes...there's tons of prizes but they are merely incentives to stick to what is definitely going to be a physical and emotional challenge. But anything worth doing is always going to be a little challenging...
What do I want to achieve?
I am writing this Blog tonight so that I can look back at it when I'm close to breaking point and want to give up (which I'm sure will happen at some stage) and remember why I wanted to do it in the first place...
-I want to be a true singer, a performer, I want to master my craft and live and breathe it.
The biggest challenge will no doubt be the 30 minutes of practice a day, which seems so simple but this is where I need to mentally be alert, listen to my instrument and try (gently) to extend it, strengthen it, create flexibility and ultimately achieve a smooth tone. Personally I think the day to day practice will be the technique as I tend to just sing through my repertoire which is out of laziness, I know I should be warming up properly and working on technique!
-I came to New York from Australia to perform...I can't forget that!!
I left my beautiful family, friends, my job, my apartment, my lifestyle to be here and live my dream. And this challenge is merely a tool to help me achieve that dream. To be singing my heart out on stage, in a studio, in a dimly lit club...anywhere. I'm here because I LOVE to sing and to dance and to be surrounded by others who share that same passion. It's not a matter of if I make it into a Broadway show...it's "Did I give it everything?" I want to have no regrets in life and I know I will look back at this part of my life and be so thankful that I did follow my heart.
Anyway I'm just pouring my heart out in this blog, but I want to make it clear for myself more than anything why exactly I am doing this and what I want to get out of it because I know it will be an experience I will remember and hopefully continue...
So here is what I need from you;
-Donations ...hahaha just kidding!
-Your SUPPORT... It is going to be hard. Apparently we only have 24 hours in a day (I've asked for more, but I am yet to see them LOL) It's going to be hard to fit it all in, keep focused, and Blog every day for 30 days so all I need is for you to support me...with words of encouragement or just by reading my blog. I need you! This is something I really am passionate about and I would love to have my friends and family with me but since I'm on the other side of the world I just have believe you are all there supporting me (I know you are! and that's why I love you and miss you all incredibly!)
Thankyou in advance for supporting me...and for those that have been supporting me since before I was famous hahaha...
OK that's all I have to say...until tomorrow.
Wish me Luck
