Got up early...ish so that I could rush around getting the necessaties for our bare apartment before volunteering at the Harlem Meer. The shopping list included; shower curtain, shower curtain hooks, curtains for my room (as there is little privacy from the street as well as the sun being a factor in the mornings), curtain rod, wireless router (not sure what it is exactly but the internet man said that is what I'm in need of), dishwashing liquid, other cleaning basics...
Note- I have never purchased ANY of this stuff before (except dishwashing stuff)...
So off I went to Best Buy (the NYC version of JB Hi-Fi...same branding and everything!) to buy the wireless router...of course they had a million different kinds, so I just went for the cheapest hahaha
Next stop Bed, Bath and Beyond! This place has literally everything for bed, bath...and beyond...
It took me one hour in this shop to get everything I needed...including spare towels and foot mat to match my bathroom:) But I think I did well for a first-timer...in curtain shopping that is...not Bed, bad and beyond!
Rushed home to drop my stuff off before heading up to Harlem to volunteer when I found out it had been cancelled from the weather:( Which is disappointing for all the people who were performing, not sure when it will be post-poned until.
I feel so at home in my new place:) Look at what the neighbours stuck on our front door...
It says the names and ages of the children that live in the apartment below us, I met them all yesterday so cute!
lunch
Tuna sandwich with swiss cheese on whole-weat bread
So I made use of my free day, decorating and working out how to put curtains up LOL...
Set up the Internet Router (surprised myself, as I am technologically dyslexic)...then had a nap.
I am exhausted! Seriously think I have burnt the candle at both ends, I needed today to just chillax...
After my nap I woke up feeling high from the paint fumes in my room, the window is painted shut so I can't get any fresh air into my room, and the fumes are just enough to annoy me.
Anyway back to the challenge related stuff...
Did 1 hour and 15 minutes of vocalization...worked on a number of songs...trying to work out what to use for the demo still...worked on "grenade" Bruno Mars, "To be with you" Mr Big, "Rita's Tune" from Sweet Smell of Success, "Black Velvet" Alannah Miles, "Movie in my Mind" Miss Saigon.
I even tried recording a song on my Mac to see if it sounded any good... My voice is a little forced at the moment, and I know it's because i'm tired...I probably shouldn't be belting so much when I feel like this...I warmed down with a couple of soprano scales, this made my voice feel better. And then I called it quits for the day....practice wise. Continued researching songs on youtube to add to my repertoire.
So without much in the way of kitchen utensils and the like, food will be an issue until we build up a few more of the basics like saucepans, toaster, kettle etc. But I did a grocery shop tonight to coincide with our lack of appliances... and had this for dinner
Rocket with fresh parmesan cheese, raw walnuts, sliced pear and caramelised balsamic vinegar (which I couldn't find ANYWHERE in NYC, bought this one in Boston)
I am already half way through this challenge...but I still have alot of stuff to do, and alot more classes and photos to take! It will get done... I am starting to get over blogging, every night I put it off till the last minute ooooops!
